Meadowbrook was first established as a corporation, through the efforts of Leo Kohler. Mr. Kohler financed its construction
with the help of many other tennis lovers in the area. The Club first opened on May 3, 1964.
Famous members of Meadowbrook include former Wimbledon champion Stan Smith, who played here while assigned locally
in the US Army,
and Timothy Gallwey, author of “The Inner Game of Tennis”.
The location was originally a farm with the local area quite under-developed, but selected for its favorable micro-climate
relative to other sites near the Monterey Peninsula.
An Olympic sized pool was initially built in 1965, but was replaced with a more manageable pool, a kiddie pool and a hot tub
in 1977. Meadowbrook continues to improve its facilities through the efforts of its members and volunteers, with the last major renovation in 2006. |
